While RURA (Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency) set a fixed price for a certain distance, passengers assert that they are tired of the drivers’ rudeness and paying heavy transport fairs.
However, taxi drivers say they are forced to overcharge customers because of the charges they have to pay.
Charles Ndoriyobijya, president of Urugendo rwiza cooperative (for mini-bus operators) reveals that mistreating passengers is a result of misunderstandings between the operators.
“Urugendo rwiza cooperative” was set up with aim of providing solution to the problems faced by tax owners, taxi drivers, conductors and mechanics.
Ndoroyobijya advises all Rwandese to opt for efficient customer care by reporting those that violate their rights on the roads.
Residents who complain are those that board taxis for short distances but not long distance passengers who use coasters of big transport companies.
Passengers ask RURA to establish strict policy and fix transport fairs per kilometer because they are being unnecessarily overcharged.
