Taxi drivers and passengers use the roadside as a taxi park
After abandoned towards completion, Mukamira taxi park building activities have resumed.
This comes after Mukamira Taxi Park building activities stopped before completion due to the contractor neglecting small works that were left for the park to start operating.
The vice-mayor for economic affairs in Nyabihu district, Angela Mukaminani has assured taxi drivers and residents of Mukamira sector that this taxi park will be ready for use in a short time.
Mukaminani adds that it’s the reason Mukamira Taxi Park was not opened officially to be used by passengers and travel conductors.
It is expected that Mukamira taxi park will solve the problem of many vehicles that bring disorder on Mukamira-Ngororero road and Mukamira trading centre.
Nyabihu is among the districts without a taxi park yet it’s in the centre where vehicles from Rubavu to Musanze and Kigali meet.
This creates overpopulated roadsides as taxis offload passengers while others board on the same area.
Mukamira Taxi Park construction was started in February 2012 on 44 hectares of land.
Though it was scheduled to be complete in May 23rd 2012, the deadline was not met because of the contractor, explains Doris Melchiade, in charge of infrastructure in Nyabihu district.
