Nyamagabe: Plan to renovate dilapidated roads underway

One of the roads in a sorry state in the district

Residents of Nyamagabe district in the Southern Province of Rwanda are excited after seeing a ray of hope following signs that one of the most dilapidated roads in their area could be paved soon.

The road in question is the Gasaka-Musange road that spans about thirty kilometers. The road is so significant because it connects several sectors in the district and is key to the inter sector trade.

On January 17, a delegation of the Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA), district authorities and construction contractors visited the road to assess the situation on the ground.

According to the authorities, the works to pave the road which will be furnished with murrum are likely to kick-off in April this year.

The preliminary study showed that the road could cost about 2.5 billion Rwandan francs, but the actual amount is expected to be known after the tender is given to the winning contractor. It is expected that the construction work will take a period of six months.
